Independent Advisory Groups - The FREEDOM to challenge

Independent Advisory Groups Dorset logo 2009The report following the death of Stephen Lawrence in 1993 recommended the greater involvement of people in local policing.

Independent Advisory Groups ( IAGs ) have been set up in many force areas and have an important part to play in ensuring that the police service effectively involves and considers our many diverse communities and their views in local policing.

Dorset Police Authority views Independent Advisory Groups as an important element of the Force’s community engagement as a way of maintaining the trust and confidence of our communities, championing respect for equality and diversity and enabling a better understanding of community views.

Oversight of the Force’s equality and diversity policies and arrangements by the Authority’s Professional Standards and Diversity Committee includes Independent Advisory Groups.
